During the mid-80s and early 90s Movin’ Records defined the New Jersey sound. A skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” Abigail Adams, Movin’s first output was ‘I’ve Got The Music’ by Boyd Jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers Blaze, Kerri Chandler, Tony Humphries and Smack; straight up “Jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. Still the Movin’ Records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
‘Don’t Turn Your Love’ was produced by Smack Productions, who would go on to produce and remix prolifically, helping to create the New York house sound. This package features remixes by DJ Tee Scott, Blaze & Tony Humphries. Tee Scott was well known for his residencies at Better Days in New York as well as Club Cheetah and Club Zanzibar in New Jersey, inspiring a young generation of clubbers and DJs alongside the rise of Larry Levan. Kevin Hedge and Josh Milan (aka Blaze) were regular contributors to the Movin’ Records catalogue, their productions and remixes helping to cement and propel the New Jersey sound to take off around the world. This release also includes the rare Tony Humphries remixes which give ‘Don’t Turn Your Love’ a solid beat and strong groove, with some authentic street-scene effects added to the mix.
